An update of innovative retrofitting techniques for R/C and masonry building: from experimental investigations to practical applications

چکیده
Traditional approaches for the seismic retrofit of existing buildings consider the following assumptions: (a) the building is not damaged after a minor earthquake, (b) the building is reparable after a moderate earthquake, and (c) the building will not have collapsed after a severe earthquake. In recent times, following several destructive earthquakes which have occurred in the past decades, the general public or building owners are no longer satisfied with the above performance objectives. In the last twenty years, several experimental investigations have been carried out by a research unit based at the University of Basilicata (UNIBAS), Potenza, Italy, in order to test the effectiveness of several innovative retrofitting techniques such as: (i) seismic isolation, (ii) energy dissipating bracing systems, (iii) an Active Confinement of Manufactured materials (CAM) strengthening system consisting of a three-dimensional tie system for the upgrading of existing structures and (iiib) Dis-CAM system (which is the CAM system with added energy dissipation). Different anti-seismic devices, based on currently available technologies or innovative systems also have been considered. In this paper an overview of recent developments, from both numerical simulations and experimental investigations performed by UNIBAS within several research projects, to their practical applications is reported.

Application of Near Surface Mounted (NSM) technique for Seismic Retrofitting of Heritage Buildings
The high vulnerability of the cultural buildings due to seismic actions urged researchers to retrofit them using reversible and compatible techniques. The application of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) for enhancing the structural behavior of masonry buildings, under seismic actions, has been studied by many researchers. The near-surface mounting (NSM) technique is a relatively new retrofitting ...
متن کاملInvestigating Efficiency of Shotcrete for Retrofitting Masonry Buildings
One of a feasible and efficient method to retrofit structures is spraying shotcrete which is widely applied around the world. Shotcrete is concrete with fine aggregates which are sprayed through a hose and by air pressure coat at high velocity onto a surface. In the current research, three masonry schools from different regions of Iran are selected. The retrofitted wall surfaces have been prepa...
متن کاملRetrofitting Masonry Walls with Carbon Mesh
Static-cyclic shear load tests and tensile tests on retrofitted masonry walls were conducted at UAS Fribourg for an evaluation of the newly developed retrofitting system, the S&P ARMO-System. This retrofitting system consists of a composite of carbon mesh embedded in a specially adapted high quality spray mortar. It can be applied with established construction techniques using traditional const...
متن کاملAnalysis of Masonry Infill Panels Retrofitted with FRP Sheets in R/C Frames
Masonry infill walls are often used as non-structural elements. According to the past structural failure, ignorance of interaction between infill walls and enclosed frame may lead to the different seismic response for non-ductile building frames. The main contribution of this paper is to analytically investigate the behavior of reinforced concrete with masonry infill panels as participating str...

Multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells or mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are mainly isolated from bone marrow or fat tissue. Because of their potential of multilineage differentiation towards bone, cartilage and fat tissue, they were initially evaluated to develop innovative strategies for tissue engineering applications. More recently, they have gained interest based on their immunomodulatory pr...
